A record of Paweł Kwaśniewski’s performance Semper Idem from 1991 at the Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw.

Kwaśniewski began his performance by melting a piece of ice in his hands and crushing it underfoot. Then he knelt by an empty chest while a helper (Janusz Bałdyga) fastened his hair to it using an upholstery stapler. Then, using his own hair, the artist dragged the chest with the inscription “semper” to the centre of the room. After releasing his hair from the prop Kwaśniewski held up a white flag to the audience reading “idem.” The Latin phrase semper idem means “always the same.”
