A record of an action by Adam Rzepecki from 1990 at the Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw.

Rzepecki’s action was accompanied by a faithful attribute: the colour red, which, the artist stressed, “does not symbolize anything.” Before the audience, the performer pulled off successive layers of clothing and then redressed in another outfit drawn from a leather bag previously brought into the gallery. In his actions, Rzepecki frequently declared his presence or absence from art, or his being or not being an artist. While deciding to function within an oppressive culture, he remained in a state of conscious suspension between negation and affirmation, agreement and disagreement, rebellion and the pleasure associated with social acceptance. His actions, marked by distance and irony, served as a defence of his own independence.
