The video work by Andrij Bojarov, "The Plant Seven", engaging in the dialogue with the television medium, was created with a portable video camera and the turned-on television set. The project adds to the rich tradition of the video art history, where artists have been leading a debate with the television medium since the second half of the 1960s. Perceiving television as a phenomenon that is increasingly affecting the society, its structure, beliefs, artists have tried to argue with it at the same time, deconstruct it, and to prevent the perception act from happening on the unilateral basis of "transmission-reception". They would make attempts to influence the picture and they used switched on television sets as the substance of their work. Bojarov often uses the strategy of "appropriation art" in his work, using quotes from his own and other peoples work, for example by recording television programmes with a video camera or, as in this case, silent films. Thus, his video art installations actually become a complex structure of overlapping pictures: a film and a video, which deceptively are similar to each other, while in fact profoundly different. The fact that we can see freeze frames on the screen, revealing the growth stages of the title plant, gives an additional advantage to this project. Thus, in one picture, a video picture, which this artistic realisation makes in the technological sense, we are dealing simultaneously with a photography and a video, two "technical images", as Villem Flusser referred to them, but at the same time with a completely different structure and properties.
